Modern Thermal Performance, Original 1930s Character Preserved
This recently completed project in Pinner, Harrow, demonstrates how external wall insulation and a high-quality silicone render system can transform an older property while respecting its original architectural character.
The 1930s detached property required a significant thermal upgrade, but the goal was not simply to modernise its appearance. Careful attention was given to retaining the distinctive details that give the property its character.
The Challenge
The property’s existing external walls needed improved thermal performance, while the new façade needed to remain sympathetic to the building’s original design.
A key consideration was improving insulation without adding unnecessary thickness to the external wall system or losing the distinctive architectural details of the original property.
The Solution
Rendering Trivia installed a 70mm Kingspan K5 Kooltherm external wall insulation system, providing improved thermal performance while keeping the overall system thickness to a minimum.
A complete EWI Pro silicone render system was then applied over the insulation, creating a durable, flexible and highly weather-resistant external finish.
The property was finished in a white 1.5mm grain silicone render, giving the exterior a clean and refreshed appearance while complementing its original 1930s style.
Preserving the Details
One of the most important aspects of the project was retaining the property's distinctive creasing tile details.
These features were carefully recreated as part of the new insulated façade, ensuring the thermal upgrade did not come at the expense of the property's architectural identity.
The Result
The completed project combines improved thermal performance with a complete exterior transformation, giving the property a fresh, contemporary finish while maintaining the character of its original design.
It demonstrates that older properties can benefit from modern insulation and rendering systems without compromising the architectural features that make them unique.
